More Than Half a Century of Excellence: Treating Pets in the Buffalo NY, WNY Area & Beyond

Orchard Park Veterinary

With our longevity of more than 60 years of serving this community, we have a reputation for excellence in veterinary care and customer service.

Our Beginnings

Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center was originally established in 1958 as a one-doctor community practice clinic by Rodney S. Graves, DVM. He was joined in 1968 by John C. Laurie, DVM, who assumed the position of director of surgery, with Dr. Graves serving as director of internal medicine.

Since then, we have grown into both a singular and unique entity, in that we now actually comprise three separate practices under one name and in one location: Well Pet/Routine Care, Emergency/Critical Care, and Referral.

Our Staff

When we first opened our doors at our old location at 3507 Orchard Park Road location on the corner of Milestrip Road, in 1979, the entire staff consisted of 12 people. Today, we employ more than 120 staff members, all of whom work hard each day to meet the mission of the hospital.

Partnership

The practice was purchased in 2017 by the current partnership group and remains privately owned. They continue to strive to improve the practice and add additional services on top of those that we are known for including two board-certified internal medicine specialists, a board-certified surgeon, a board-certified oncologist, an on-site laboratory, a blood bank program, acupuncture, behavioral consultations, and of course 24-hour emergency and critical care.

These features have placed us in a position to offer continuous and consistent care, 24 hours a day/7 days a week. We treat pets during primary care/wellness visits, emergency situations, and those admitted to the hospital for diagnostics and supportive care.

Having owned the practice from 1995-2017, the previous partnership group consisted of Dr. David Brummer ACVIM, Dr. Susan Metzger, and Dr. Mark Hedges. All three of them continue to practice at OPVMC.

OPVMC Today

Along with our growth and changes, we strive to maintain a family-like atmosphere for both staff and clients. We do this by focusing on the goals defined in our mission and vision statements: always provide services based on our patient's needs. We are always the patient's advocate.

In May 2008, we moved to our current location at 3930 North Buffalo Road, into a 22,000 square foot former supermarket, newly remodeled and outfitted for our practice. Our team still boasts a thriving primary practice, an ever-growing referral practice, and continues to offer 24-hour emergency care for all the pets in the Western New York area.
